its just silly to go on with this pc vs consoles thing cause there never can be a winner mmo might not be the perfect fit for consoles but i think they do still work well there

Well it is more action-y than other MMOs so it could work quite well. Not sure if theres a decent crowd on consoles for that kind of game though.
itd be cool if pc and xbox 360 players could play together. I know shadowrun iled, but I still have hope of an integrated future.
NCsoft noted that its primary focus remains on the PC version of Guild Wars 2.
My PC recently crashed on me. Windows Vista (Yes, I still have Vista. I know, What the F?) loads up, you hear the sound greeting and everything, but nothing appears on the screen. I suspect my Power Supply died on me and thus my PC has no power to use the GPU.
they didnt say that its in developement for the current gen, odds are that the game wont be ready until next gen anyway.

GW2 should indeed come out to consoles. Expanding the genre is important, and will give monopoly MMOs like WoW a serious competition, for once.
Link3301 I guess we have different perspective of what is on-the-go. To me, playing in Starbucks, or in a hotel/coffee shop while on vacation is on-the-go.

TheVGamer TERA is more action than any other mmo….GW2 is still a tab target click game
The current generation of consoles will not be able to handle this game in a decent way. Loading times will be very long or very frequent. Also I dont think the FPS in large PvP groups will not make the gameplay enjoyable. However, for the next generation of consoles, it will probably be a good decision to give it a try. However the control scheme will remain an issue as well as the chat, both this aspects being very important in any MMORPG.

Lol for someone who builds PCs you dont know alot about the price of parts I built my PC for 800 in June last year and it runs BF3 at max settings theres plenty of sites out there that offer great deals on parts
2. Why mention $700 dollars as a comparable budget when a PS3 used is $250 max?
Jehuty599 Agreed. I rather miss the trolling 12 year olds screaming insults into their mics at other players on Xbox. No joke…a kid who was like 9 or 10 called me a Fing B on XBL. Im sure you can fill in the blanks for what he said.

I doubt the PC gamers will play with the console gamers. They will be separated. Granted, the game is about class wars, and forcing console gamers to ally against PC gamers might make the whole thing a lot more interesting.

PC elitists, you disgust me. I hate Console kiddies just as much as the next PC user, but we still need them. Yes, I hate when they take exclusives from us (IE Witcher 2, Crysis, Counter Strike), and give us nothing back but delays and sometimes no PC releases, but consoles are the lifeblood of mainstream gaming. Use them, and have them use us.
4 Applies to you too.

Console noobs I built my high-end gaming desktop that can run 5 games at the same time, at max settings, with no slow down just for for 700 dollars, also stop !$ing about this, Guild Wars 2 will be coming to consoles so everyones happy.
simon1812 A console version of GW2? I wonder if the game will share servers cross-platform?, PC players being able to interact with console players
Edit: Oh yea, cause this is GameSpot…. silly me. Continue rantin and ravin.
SirNormanislost : If I didnt know what I was talking about I wouldnt say anything. Besides, you just proved my words. Â800 is $1260 dollars, and I can guarantee you that you dont have the best graphics card and other parts. And, I surely didnt include a good HD monitor, etc. Great deals on parts tends to mean the cheap parts more times than not. I only buy Quality, thats why my computers LAST.
If i didnt think that this would somehow wind up affecting PC players i wouldnt be too concerned about this…… but given whats happening/happened to PC gaming over the last several years (because of consoles) i dont see how any of this can be good news for the PC gaming crowd.

SirNormanislost : If you want cheap products, yes you can build a half way decent gaming PC for under 1000. But if you want quality and real high performance, no. I know, I build PCs.
Its an MMO people. More players = more fun. More fun = better game experience.
Also for a mouse and keyboard vs. controller. Thats debatable and no one will know until the game comes out. Guild Wars 2 is an action RPG, action games to me feel great on controller. Just because you can micro 25+ !$ing keys and click=shoot doesnt mean youre superior in every single game PCtards. Console noobs, youre never going to outclass PC games in most categories, get over it.

What is a small team to Arena.net? And why not finish the PC version first, then spread out your team. Right now, they should use every person available and all their resources. Does this mean the game is basically finished? Im hyped for Guild Wars 2 as the next guy, but I hate it when developers make a terrible decision like this so early on. Release the damn game first.

Lol what idiot buys the most up to date parts. You can build a good pc without having to buy $4000 dollars worth of stuff. Games never rely on the latest hardware, so there is not much reason to buy it.

Guild Wars 2 is marching ever closer to its 2012 launch on the PC, and it appears as if a console version is within the realm of possibility as well. NCsoft confirmed for GameSpot today that a small development team is at work on a console version of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game.
I hardly proved your words my build was over the top BF3 looks better on medium settings then its console counter parts so I could have easily built something cheaper as for your whole quality argument theres no need for the best of the best of any part when theres no games to use that power (untill crytek pull their finger out and give us a proper power hungry crysis sequel instead of the confined meh ness that was crysis2)
hardcore people will go beyond regular gaming just because of their passion. They will not only upgrade hardware ( if they have money ) but also software which is usually just matter of their time. They will mod and improve their games just because they love them. So this is major difference between pc and console gamers. How many new good IPs did we actually get? Most big releases we get this year are sequels.

You see what I did there? $700 =/= $250. Thats right, even your ridiculously cheap wonder gaming rig (which you suspiciously did not post the specs of) is nearly triple the price of the PS3 I bought.
The confirmation follows remarks made by NCsoft during a postearnings conference call this week (and spotted byGuildWarsInsider). According to an NCsoft executive speaking via translator, the console version is in the preparation stage. Specific platforms and a targeted launch window were not revealed.

Link3301 Id be happy to be able to play where theres Wi-fi. A lot of places have wi-fi now, when youre on vacation, etc.
Ill tell you firsthand that TERA has not done that well in Korea (except for being praised for its visuals) and its combat is not that thrilling after a while. Most people still prefer WoW, AION, and DnF vastly over Tera. We cant really judge GW2 for its combat until we tried it for ourselves in its finished stage. But GW1 was always highly praised at least for its combat if nothing else. Cross-Platform wise, consoles now support keyboard and mouse so if it does end up being cross-platform (which is extremely unlikely due to reasons other than something minimal as PvP from the companys standpoint) players will not have to ce any discrimination. However, due to server costs (maintenance and etc etc) and other costs to make cross platforming possible, cross platforming will not happen. This is why cross platforming is rare – simply due to the price to make it possible.
Link3301: Not if you want QUALITY and to stay on top of things. From scratch, buying everything, it is going to cost you alot more than $700-1000 dollars to buy good quality PC with the most up to date parts. – You dont have to do that with a console, you buy it and your done. Period. End of discussion. Not going to argue about it. End.

the console team has nothing to do with developing or launching of the pc version of the game. Its not taking away resources, its just a team designing a port of the app to consoles. They didnt say the console version would launch witht he pc version its a future project. Just like FFXI was on pc then ported to consoles or witcher 2. At this stage in console design, it would be stupid to not design games that play on both formats, especially since the next xbox will pretty much just be a pc anyway.
A console version of GW2? I wonder if the game will share servers cross-platform?, PC players being able to interact with console players, if it isnt too crazy, well that would be epic.

I have 1250 dolars to make a high end pc for gaming. You said you build a pretty great machine with only 700 dollars. Can you tell me what did you buy? The parts, I mean. Also, give me tips on what is good and cheap or bad, too expensive? I really thought I couldnt have a high end PC with just 1250 dollars, if you say I can and tell me how, Ill be really thankfull.
Tera could do well on console for its combat system wich is the best combat to date for an mmo.
FFXI did the cross-platform MMO years ago and it worked like a charm, whys everyone gettin so riled up.
NCsoft noted that its primary focus remains on the PC version of Guild Wars 2.

BenFireFox (There hasnt been a good PC game for years that uses the joypad)
You said it costs thousands and that you have to upgrade every year. That is not true. You can build a good rig for about 700-1000 dollars and you only have to upgrade about every 2-3 years. Plus, most of the time you only need to upgrade your graphics card.
Whats all this elite talk? Elite at what? Nothing bad can come from NCsoft a console version of Guild Wars 2. It will open up the game to new players that will be happy to support it. Which will in turn give the developers the ability to make the game better as it grows.
DemonChorro
Number of games were simplified for consoles like BF: BC that affected pc market. (CoD used to be more fun, more original between sequels and harder to play). Since market is driven to profit which largely lies in consoles in US, naturally more complex games are rarely seen. Not many strategies (pc), no flight sims not much of driving sims either.

2 The idea that consoles are decreasing innovation in the gaming market is absurd. Think about all the great IPs that came about just because of console innovation. If you look back 30 years or so, video games really started to take off because of home consoles, so really the industry wouldnt even be close to what it is today without the existence of consoles.

A console version doesnt bother me providing that it doesnt affect the quality of the PC version. The more accessible the game is the better.
Or is there going to be some form of offline story mode?
Please NCSoft, dont put this game on consoles. MMOs just dont work well on consoles and I dont want them to try and shoehorn the game onto one.
But that means it wont be on the go, so a Vita version is pointless.

Interesting. Ive been playing GW 1 for over 6 years now. Yep 6 years! Ive done all Im going to do with that game so Im looking forward to 2. However, I dont think it will have the same magic that GW1 had for me, but time will tell. As for Guild Wars 2 coming over to the consoles? Sure why not. Guild Wars 1 was not a graphically intensive game and I dont think GW2 will be either. So in terms of the art direction, grand fantasia gold. a current gen console should have no problem running it just fine. Granted hubs will have to be low rezzed to account for the number of players popping in. Regardless it could work. Yes I play it all and I am well aware that it will still look better on PC lol. Should be fun Im excited to see it hit the shelves![]()

When Guild Wars 2 launches later this year it will cost a fee up front but will not require a monthly paid subscription to continue playing.
3 Neither console games, nor the gamers that play on consoles are dumbed down. Consoles are simply a different medium to enjoy the plethora of quality games out there right now. The only real difference between PCs and consoles to a hardcore gamer is the source of input… PCs use a keyboard and mouse while consoles use a controller. So I ask you: why does this prevent consoles from being an acceptable hardcore platform? Look at all the great games that were made this year; a very large percentage of them are available to console gamers, probably more than PCs if I was to guess.
